Happy New (Olympic) Year!

Will this be the year of the Prana Ski Team? No, not yet, but there is a strong lobby that is gaining support, and we are considering the possibility of forming a team for next ski season. If that sounds fairly ambiguous it is intentional, because this is no sure thing. Let’s just say that the proposal is being reviewed. If it does happen, it will be fun to keep up to date on the successes (and failures) of the team.

While we are waiting there will be some real competition to watch next month as the 2018 Winter Olympics begin on February 8 in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The Pyeongchang Olympics will take place at several different venues located in the T’aebaek Mountains, roughly 95 miles east of Seoul. This area is in the northern part of the country just west of the Sea of Japan at about 37½ degrees north latitude, which incidentally is about the same latitude as Richmond, Virginia. Some peaks are higher than 5000 feet. And it can be cold in Pyeongchang. Temperatures could be in the single digits for the opening ceremony.

As for the ski racing events, there are two alpine centers, and it should be exciting watching Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin take on the hill and the rest of the world’s best racers. I prefer these speed events; however the Olympics are also a great time to watch many other sports that I don’t often get a chance to see. Who doesn’t love a good curling game? I suppose I could find it at other times, but it wouldn’t be the same as it is during the Olympics. Take a look at the schedule, and enjoy watching all events. And note that there is a 14 hour time difference. Our prime-time is the next morning in Pyeongchang.

This is just a partial view of the schedule, so for the full view click on the schedule or follow this link:

As for the Prana Ski Team, we may need a few more recruits if we are serious about next year, so if you are interested in joining us, or know someone else who might be, let us know. You won’t see any of us in the Olympics, but it is guaranteed to be a fun time. Until then, we’ll keep on painting.
